Contact the Right Office

This is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, or pull an official booking record. Questions about a record or a person's status must go to the agency or court that holds it.

Where to Ask in Cleveland County

Use the contact that matches the record. The Sheriff's office is the lead route for county detention and county booking records. The city departments handle their own incident reports. County administrative offices generally list weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the detention facilities are separately described as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Law Enforcement Detention Center
100 Justice Place, Shelby, NC
Both are described by the Sheriff as open 24/7. Visitation is listed as Wednesday, 1:00 to 3:45 p.m. for A to M names and Friday, 1:00 to 3:45 p.m. for N to Z names.

Official directories list different detention numbers, including (704) 669-3040 and (704) 484-4889. Verify routing through the Sheriff's current switchboard before relying on one number.

  • For a current inmate or county booking record, use the P2C inmate inquiry and Sheriff's records route.
  • For a recent public-safety event, use the Daily Bulletin and keep in mind that it is not a guaranteed booking list.
  • For a Shelby incident report, contact Shelby Police at 130 West Warren Street, Shelby, NC, (704) 484-6845.
  • For a Kings Mountain incident report, use KMPD Records at 112 South Piedmont Avenue, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. In-person hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the records clerk number shown is (704) 734-0444.

  • For a court event or disposition, use the Cleveland County court directory and eCourts. The courthouse main phone is (704) 476-7800.
  • For state prison, probation, or parole records, use the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction offender search. Federal or immigration custody requires the BOP, ICE, or responsible agency route.

What to Put in a Records Request

Give the custodian enough detail to find an existing record. Include the person's full name, date of birth if known, booking or arrest date, booking number if known, arresting or booking agency, and whether the request seeks inspection, an electronic copy, a booking record, a photograph, or an incident report. Ask for the legal basis of any withholding. Cleveland County did not publish a fixed booking-photo fee or turnaround schedule. The county says requests are processed in order and that it will communicate about cost or delay.

A city request is not a county request. Kings Mountain says incident reports may be available within two business days and that copies have no charge. Boiling Springs' form requires a detailed description, requester information, signature, and payment under the town's adopted fee schedule. Keep those rules attached to the correct office.
